Our Mission

Our mission is to empower and encourage Women to be the best version of themselves both on and off the Rugby field.

How Grand Rapids Women's Rugby Began

The women’s side began during the winter of 2015 when a couple of Davenport University women’s rugby players got the idea to start the team for a sport management internship.

The summer of 2015 was our first season as a team, and it was 7s—a version of rugby with seven vs. seven players, as seen in the 2016 Summer Olympics. The following fall was our very first 15s season, marking our first regular competitive season.

As a brand new team, we were very successful in every game we were able to play, both home and away. Completing the season 8-2 in our Division II games, the Grand Rapids Gazelles Women Rugby Football Club came out and showed the rugby world what we are about. Our Brother Rugby team is Grand Rapids Gazelles Rugby Football Club (RFC) which dates back to the spring of 1978.
